Update on the dream

I'm married and the father of three cats. That part is the part that is working. The dream is the part that is broken and I have not been able to fill the hole . . . Yet.

The dream was to buy an RV and travel the country. That was my single objective in retirement and I did not allow for ANY alternative strategy in the event that it did not work. The idea of that objective failing never entered my head.

For several reasons, the RV idea failed to reach fruition. There wasn't just one reason. For instance, I am happiest of the two land highway with the wheels turning. This is mostly because of seeing new places and things and allowing the spontaneity to stop and/or change directions to take place. That is not possible if I am pulling a travel trailer. Focus has to be almost entirely on the highway and the act of driving.

I wasn't aware of this until three or four test drives with a rented trailer. I have since taken some trips via the motel route but I cannot take the cats and my wife does not do well with long distance rides. So . . . I am still working on it.

I retired on 2/3/07. I am doing a bit better now because of some feedback and direction from my therapist and a men's group that I went to on Saturday.

I can only suggest that you plan for several options and alternatives for retirement.
